characteristics of exterior wall assemblies by
evaluating the following:
A Fire spread over the exterior surface;
B Heat flow from the fire plume to the exterior surface; and
C Fire spread within the test specimen.
This test method does not assess:
A The fire performance of framing details or treatments of windows, doors or other
openings that may be used in combination with the test specimen;
B The fire performance of the test specimen when exposed to the effects of an interior fire
migrating through an exterior wall assembly; and
C Loadbearing capabilities of the exterior wall.
Durability requirements, as a product of exposure and influence (if any) due to climate change,
are outside the scope of this standard. (Refer to Appendix E).
Revision 1 to the Second Edition of this standard includes the addition of an informative Appendix
providing guidance on considerations for environmental conditions or climate change resilience in
support of the National Research Council of Canada program to address the impact of Climate
Change Adaptation in Canadian Codes and Standards.
